The Catalonia Order in Council 1/2007, on urgent measures in urban planning, introduced the figure of strategic residential areas in order to ease the shortage of residential land.

One of the strategic residential areas included in the master plan was the one in Mollerussa (Lleida) developed by Pb2. This area will become a new residential area at the northeastern edge of the city. It has a gross surface of over 21 hectares, in which is planned to build 1,617 housing units (850 in protected regime).

The biggest challenge of our work was to be able to develop a large urban setting capable of integrating the new residential growth in the urban scene and to promote the richness and diversity of the different types of buildings, public spaces, services and uses. It was also claimed that the performance had its own identity to become a transitional element between city and countryside.

The project carried out takes into account the estimated infrastructure as to allow connections with other urban areas outside the action as well as the general characteristics of the urbanization needed in its functional, formal and constructive aspects.
